Quail Creek Neighborhood
Quail Creek announced an employee has the virus but isn't saying much else. It didn't take long before the virus was secondary. The story quickly became the community's reluctance to share information.
My phone and email were filled with messages about what residents felt was a lack of transparency — even caring.
Birding - Rare Hummingbird Sightings
Birders and photographers who have been at the viewing area of the Santa Rita Lodge in Madera Canyon recently have been treated to the best season for spoting Elegant Trogons but the real treat was seeing Berylline hummingbirds.
At first, we thought we were seeing tonly one of them. When I captured one opening its bill wide looking to be fed, I knew the female had to be around, too. I'll attach two of the juvenile and one of the female. They were deep into a pycantha
Gardening - Meet the Expert
If you've been reading the Green Valley News at all over the past 15-plus years, you know the name Mary Kidnocker. She's a master gardener, terrific human being and our gardening columnist. She knows her stuff. Name the topic and she's likely
written about it — Google Green Valley News and Mary Kidnocker and you'll get plenty. But what about you? It seems our spring is short this year, but we've all had more time than usual to get outside. What are you planting?
Covid-19 and antibodies
I called the stated number for testing and they sent me a three page registration form. Why do I need to provide SSN, two next of kin and other sensitive information to get tested? Has anyone else tried to schedule testing?
- Sophie C, GV Neighbor
I did the free testing today at the Baptist Church in GV. I didn't think to ask while there which company's test they're using. I'm concerned with accuracy given this recent test of various tests. Maybe GVNEWS can find out what they used
today and let the community know? I've also sent a message to the SIPMD website, but I'm not holding my breath for a response.

My name is Jamie Verwys and I'm a reporter for the Sahuarita Sun and Green Valley News. I contacted the provider of this testing to let them know people are having trouble getting through to register.
Bird lovers vote!
Since there are many bird enthusiasts in southern Arizona, we should all be aware of what Trump is doing. As a result of his ruling on Friday, as many as 1,000 bird species could be made extinct. If this bothers you, perhaps we could all
let our elected Representatives know how we feel. And voting Trump out of office in November would also be excellent. The birds will thank us.
Living and dying with dignity
The current pandemic means that even healthy young people are dying suddenly and unexpectedly. It is a harsh reminder that death could come to any of us at any time, whether from a wrong-way driver on the highway or a much smaller, invisible
enemy like a vicious virus. There is no better time than the present to get our legal affairs in order. That means not only a will, but also healthcare powers of attorney and advance directives. So, if we are unable to express our wishes
at end of life, we already have in place an advocate who will do so for us.
